In the resort town of South Lake Tahoe, California, a new evacuation order has been issued as a devastating wildfire approaches. Meanwhile, wildfires south of Los Angeles have caused massive firestorms.

Residents of South Lake Tahoe, a resort town on the California side of a lake on the state border with Nevada, were ordered to move east on Monday, and law enforcement officials went door-to-door to make sure everyone followed orders.

About 24,000 people have already fled their homes along the highway linking South Lake Tahoe with Sacramento, San Francisco broadcaster CBS reported Monday. The fire destroyed about 500 buildings, injured five people and burned more than 177,000 acres of land, according to Cal Fire.

By Monday afternoon, the Kaldor fire was confined to only 14%, and firefighters in Riverside and San Diego counties, south of Los Angeles, faced similar difficulties in taking control of the Chaparral fire. A dramatic video filmed over the weekend shows helicopters dropping water tanks onto flames that have turned into a fiery tornado.
