The authorities of Chuvashia on September 7 introduced a regional emergency due to the death of crops as a result of a soil drought. This was stated by the head of the republic Oleg Nikolaev at an extraordinary meeting of the government commission for the prevention and elimination of emergencies and ensuring fire safety.

"It is necessary to take response measures as quickly as possible, to develop a clear plan of measures in order to reduce the negative consequences for farmers. For this, from September 7, a regional emergency is introduced in Chuvashia for the governing bodies and forces of the territorial subsystem of the republic of a unified state system for preventing emergencies." quoted Nikolaev in the press service of the administration of the head of the republic.

According to preliminary data from the administrations of municipal districts, the crops of 53 agricultural producers on an area of ​​5, 7 thousand hectares have suffered from soil drought in the republic. The amount of damage is 300.4 million rubles.

In the observation zone of the Batyrevo meteorological station there are Batyrevsky, Komsomolsky, Shemurshinsky and Yalchiksky districts, the Kanash weather stations - Kanashsky, Kozlovsky, Urmarsky and Yantikovsky districts. Municipal emergency regimes have been introduced in these areas. In addition, action plans have been developed to mitigate drought damage. According to Chuvashstat, this year the share of regions in the total area of ​​grain and leguminous crops is 42.1%, potatoes - 54.1%, open field vegetables - 43.7%.

In the republic as a whole, the decrease in grain yield by 2020 is 39.9%, to the average value for five years - by 25.7%, potatoes - by 16.6%, to the average value for 5 years - by 13.1%, vegetables - by 21.4%, to the average value for five years - by 9.2%.
