In Climax, Minnesota, a large crack formed in the ground, causing a 500 meter section of an agricultural field to collapse 8 meters down. Few have ever seen something like this, and the farmers and scientists themselves are amazed at what happened.

Wayne Erickson still finds it difficult to comprehend what happened on his farm. To put it simply, a patch of his black bean field fell down two stories.

“When I came here, it was like the Grand Canyon. We didn't have any subsidence, and then the whole field just fell straight down,” Erickson said.

Wayne and Erlene Erickson are the fourth generation on the family farm and have never seen anything like it. No one knows exactly what caused the huge collapse.

"It's a little scary. It's scary to see this," Erlene Erickson said as she surveyed the collapsed field. "Mother Nature does what she wants."

Geologists at the University of North Dakota say dry weather, falling water levels in the Red River and recent rainfall may create ideal conditions for such phenomena to occur, but this is only a hypothesis. "This is a geological miracle …" - say the scientists.

In the area, following drone footage, it was found that new cracks were forming as the ground continued to shift.

Soil science experts will arrive at the scene to try and figure out what's going on here.
