The remains of a mammoth with preserved soft tissues and muscle fibers were found in Yamal, presumably they belong to an adult. This was reported by the press service of the regional government on Friday.
"The staff of the main museum of Yamal went to the place of discovery. Thanks to the regional veterinary service, which is currently vaccinating deer, the staff of the museum and exhibition complex (MVK) managed to get to the Tambey region and inspect the place of discovery - this is a stream that flows into the Yabtayakha River. the coordinates of the find were fixed, the location of the bones was documented. During the expedition, bones of the forelimbs lying on the surface were extracted and then delivered to Salekhard, "the message says.
According to Evgeniya Khozyainova, head of the department of humanitarian research at the MVK State Budgetary Institution, Evgenia Khozyainova, presumably, the remains with preserved soft tissues and muscle fibers belong to an adult. "It is still impossible to say about the complete safety of the skeleton," she said.
The press service added that the remains were placed in a refrigerator, and the data will be analyzed later. The question of the need for further research will also be resolved.
Currently, the MVK has a rich paleontological collection, among the unique exhibits are the skeleton of the Mongochen mammoth (geological age - about 17,000 years) and the mummy of the world-famous mammoth Luba (geological age - 42,000 years), found in 2007. The mammoth Tadibe was excavated last year and is currently being studied.
