The Norwegian researcher Audun Rikardsen analyzed the case of many hours of contact with people of a rare species of dolphins and came to the conclusion that this behavior is unusual for gregarious mammals. Reported by NRK.
Marieel Kungsvuld from Sandvik province was in a boat with her family on a fjord walk. Suddenly a northern whale dolphin appeared next to her. For several hours he kept up with people and constantly appeared on the surface, clearly attracting attention to himself.
This case was investigated by the scientist-oceanologist of the Arctic University Audun Rikardsen. According to him, this behavior is unusual, earlier this species of dolphins avoided people and it was not an easy task to observe it. In addition, the whale dolphin is a family animal and the appearance of a single individual in the fjord is an outstanding case, the specialist emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that the State Duma is preparing a bill banning the fishing of dolphins and killer whales for dolphinariums. This initiative is based on the fact that keeping marine mammals in captivity is, in fact, mockery of animals, and requests from oceanarians provoke an increase in poaching.
