Astrophotographer Chirac Hospian reported on his Instagram page that he was able to capture a very strange flash while hunting for the Perseid meteor shower.

I looked up into the sky and visually noticed a bright green beam, about half the width of the milky way, flashed for a split second. I shot a time-lapse, and this is the only frame that shows this event. There are no traces of this event in the before and after frames.

I saw this flash with my eyes and I'm pretty sure there was no singularity - just a short continuous beam of light. I don’t think it’s lens flare because nothing was captured that was bright enough to trigger such a flash, and this is the only frame out of hundreds that has this “flash”. In addition, lens flare appears to be quite long, reaching to the edges of the frame, I don't think that's typical of lens flare.

It is not a meteor or a meteor, I have never seen a meteor manifest in this way, and from what I saw, there was no trace - just a flash, which is not typical for meteors. The event was also overhead where turbulence is minimal.

It scared me when I saw this flash … It was like a bright green beam of light that lasted for a split second.

After the publication of this image, Hospian turned to the astronomical community for experts to help him in determining the causes of what happened, but so far no one has been able to explain what the astrophotographer saw and was able to photograph.

Among the many versions, there is also a version about aliens who arrived on Earth under the cover of the Perseid meteor shower on August 11 or 12.
