One person was killed and another seriously injured as a result of heavy rainfall and flooding that caused a wall to collapse in a house in El Paso, Texas.
Victims tried to evacuate their homes before the wall collapsed. "Firefighters worked to remove the victims from under the wall, while flooding continued to flood the living room. Firefighters and medical services took both to a local hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead," El Paso city officials said.
Continued torrential rains have left vast areas of the city of El Paso flooded with water. Sandbags are distributed to protect property. El Paso emergency services have responded to several incidents of cars getting stuck or swept away by water after drivers tried to drive through a flood. Roads were also flooded across the border in Mexico, causing traffic problems in Ciudad Juarez.
The National Weather Service in El Paso reported 3.75 inches (95.25 mm) of rainfall in northeastern El Paso on August 12. More rains are expected over the weekend and flash flood warnings remain in place.
