550 sheep died in a lightning strike on Mount Abul in the Ninotsminda region in southern Georgia.
Deputy Mayor of Ninotsminda Artavaz Tonoiani said that there were about 1,500 sheep on a pasture located five kilometers from the village of Tambovka in Ninotsminda region.
Some of the dead livestock belonged to a local farmer from Tambovka, and some belonged to farmers from Kakheti.
The shepherd said that the lightning struck twice, and the sheep fell, and asked for help from the Ninotsminda mayor's office. However, Tonoiani says that "we have no official confirmation that the weather is really the cause."
"The reasons will be determined by the veterinarian. The only thing we can do now is to allocate a place where the dead sheep will be buried," he said.
