The specialists of the Hydrometeorological Center analyzed the nature of the tornadoes that led to the death of people in the Tver region. The elements raged in the Andreapolsky and Ostashkovsky districts. 3 people became its victims, 15 more were injured.

The howling of the wind very quickly replaced the noise of chainsaws. These are the rescuers clearing the rubble. The city of Andriapolis suffered the most from the tornado. Landscapes as after the bombing. Demolished fences, buildings.

Other settlements also got it. In the village of Kartun, out of 20 houses, the element spared two. The rest have their roofs torn off, windows smashed. Eyewitnesses say that even capital buildings were striven to be carried away. It is interesting that Kartun is located 80 kilometers from Andriapol. This confirms the hypothesis of a whole series of tornadoes. According to experts, there could be 5 or 6. So, one tornado lasted only half a minute, but during this time it managed to level the whole grove to the ground and leave several buildings without a roof.

Alas, not without the dead. In Andriapol, the head of the family was buried under the rubble of his own house, another woman was killed with a tree. The third victim of the hurricane is a tourist from Moscow, he was vacationing in the Ostashkovsky district. People were warned about bad weather in advance, but this, perhaps, no one expected. For the central regions of Russia, tornadoes are a rare occurrence; in addition, they are extremely difficult to predict. Meanwhile, experts have already assessed the strength of the "Andriapol" tornado. The F-2 category on the Fujita-Pearson scale is a relatively weak vortex, unable, for example, to overturn cars.

“We believe that somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd category of tornado, when the wind speed is more than 50 meters per second, the 3rd category may appear in some places, and this is already 70 meters per second. Judging by the satellite data, it is also necessary to connect the radar. But there was a rotation inside, there was a mezacyclone, so it was more like a tornado, not a tornado … "- says Alexander Chernokulsky, Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Climate Theory of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics named after A.M. Obukhov, Russian Academy of Sciences

Scientists have also noticed a unique coincidence. Exactly 4 years ago, in almost the same area, the largest outbreak of tornadoes in history occurred.

"Then in the Tver and neighboring regions, 56 tornadoes formed in 1 day. In the Tver region there were 49 of them. That is, most of it was in the Tver region and also on August 2. And they were plus or minus in a similar area. And there were tornadoes there. the second category, they dumped a lot of forest … "- added Chernokulsky.

Tornadoes, comparable in power to Andriapol, occurred in other regions as well. In May 2016, a tornado left more than a hundred houses in the Rostov region without a roof. In 2014, several districts of Bashkiria suffered from a tornado (obviously of a higher category). Two people were killed. In total, half a thousand buildings were damaged. On one of the farms, a tornado knocked down a tractor and even sent a ZIL truck flying.

In the era of global warming, tornadoes can no longer be called exotic for Russia. Against! According to the latest estimates, from 100 to 300 land tornadoes are formed in our country every year. In the Moscow region, for example, there are 7 of them per season. Another thing is that settlements occupy an insignificant part of the territory of Russia, therefore funnels do not bring any destruction. Take, for example, a tornado near Kazan. It spun up a day after the Tver tornado.

Recently, Russian climatologists have created the largest database of tornadoes. It covers the period from the 10th century to 2016! Scientists analyzed everything: from chronicles to messages on social networks. The information was double-checked using satellite imagery. In total, it was possible to collect information on 2800 tornadoes in the territory of the former USSR. The conclusions are stunning: in the north of Eurasia, tornadoes turned out to be a regular occurrence. Since the twentieth century, the "density" of a tornado is 4 cases per 10 thousand square kilometers. In our country, they have been repeatedly recorded even on the coast of the White Sea, in Karelia and the Komi Republic. The western regions of the Central Federal District, by the way, fall into a zone where destructive craters are formed approximately once every 15 years.

For the formation of a tornado, sharp temperature contrasts are needed, when air masses of different signs are intensively mixed. This usually happens in a horizontal plane, but under powerful thunderclouds the flows become vertical. It was then that the "trunk" of the tornado descends from the cloud. In Russia, tornadoes most often occur in the summer at 17-18 hours, this is the moment of maximum daytime warming up. 80% of emerging tornadoes are weak and short-lived, categories F-1, F-0. They are not able to disperse the wind over 50 meters per second. And such vortices do not live long - on average, no more than 10 minutes. For comparison: the longest tornado in history happened in 1917 in the US state of Illinois. The famous Mattun tornado lasted 7 hours and 20 minutes. During this time, he managed to overcome 500 kilometers across the United States and take 695 human lives.

Interestingly, the surge in tornado activity is associated with the restoration of normal west-east transport in the Russian Plain, when, after a prolonged heat wave, storm fronts began to penetrate the region again. Due to the influence of cyclones in the northwest, the processes of restructuring the atmosphere in the autumn mode have already started. In Murmansk, in the middle of the week, the daytime temperature did not exceed +11 degrees Celsius. At the same time, it is still hot in the south and southeast. The intrusion of cold air into Bashkiria turned into a real nightmare. Roofs tore off the roofs of residential buildings, schools and shopping centers in squalls. And winter came to the Kuban for the same reason. Not real, of course. On the Labinsk-Armavir highway, it suddenly became white-white due to hail. There were so many pieces of ice that "drifts" formed on the roadside, which did not want to melt for a long time. Despite the 30-degree heat.

Residents of Central Russia will have hot weather on weekends and early next week: in the afternoon - as if in July Sochi + 27 … + 30, local showers and thunderstorms will rustle, hail is possible. And only after Wednesday, the warm anomaly will slightly decrease, although the temperature regime will still be above normal - in the afternoon + 24 … + 26. Last year, in these numbers of August, it was already cool, and the year before last, the columns of the capital's thermometers did not climb so high.
