The solar maximum may come a year earlier: the 25th solar cycle is coming faster than expected. The last sign can be found in the sunspot count for July 2021. Continuing the trend that began last year, they are above the official forecast.

The official forecast by NOAA / NASA's 2019 Solar Cycle 25 Prediction Team suggests that solar cycle 25 will peak in July 2025. However, a more accurate match with current data shows that the peak of the 25th solar cycle will occur in October 2024. This is just outside the 8-month margin of error of the experts' forecast.

July 2021 has been a very active month. Solar cycle 25 crossed many thresholds, including the first X-flare and, at some point, 6 sunspots on the solar disk were observed simultaneously. The last time such a number of sunspots was simultaneously observed was in September 2017.

One of the new flares, which came from a distant front in July this year, was so strong that it affected the Earth, despite being on the "wrong" side of the Sun. Several other emissions have passed our planet.

If solar activity continues to rise, some of these impacts will soon begin to hit the Earth.
