Fires in Yakutia since the beginning of the dangerous season have covered 4 million 240 thousand hectares. This was announced on Tuesday by the head of the forestry department of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic, Andrei Mikhailov, during the round table "Forest relations and extinguishing the forests of Yakutia" in the online format in the historical park "Russia is my history".
"Since the beginning of the fire hazardous season, 1 326 forest fires have already been registered, last year this figure was 1,598. The number of fires is less, but the area is larger. The area now [is] 4 million 240 thousand hectares," Mikhailov said.
He noted that at the moment there are 171 natural fires on the territory of the republic, the area covered by the fire exceeds 2 million hectares. Extinguishing work is carried out on 58 forest fires in 17 districts on an area of 760 thousand hectares. Over the past day, 8 fires were liquidated on an area of 11,300 hectares.
Yakutia is one of the most flammable regions of the Russian Federation. There is an emergency situation in the region, since July 1, residents are prohibited from visiting the forests.
