Russian scientists from the Research and Production Company "Initium-Pharm" and the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences were the first in the world to reveal the ability of Siberian fir terpenes to start autophagy in the human body, thus contributing to an increase in life expectancy, RIA Novosti reports.
Autophagy is the process of disposing of the "waste" of a living cell, in which unnecessary components, such as damaged protein molecules, organelles or viruses, are converted into nutrients. As a result, it detoxifies the human body.
However, autophagy is genetically disabled in most cells, and the natural cleansing process is dormant. Scientists around the world are looking for a way to activate this process by developing various methods of “turning on” autophagy in the cells of the human body.
The experiments carried out by the authors of this work have determined that the terpenes of the Siberian fir can very quickly and safely trigger autophagy in human cells.
“We are on the verge of discovering the“elixir of youth”, which can significantly increase the life expectancy of a person,” said Fania Maganova, head of research projects at Initium-Pharm.
