A mother and her son were killed when flooding hit several parts of Islamabad following heavy rains.

A video shared on social media shows cars in the E-11 area being washed downstream among streams of murky water after rainwater flooded the streets. At least 5 cars were damaged by the flood.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Islamabad Hamza Shafkaat urged the population to "cooperate and limit unnecessary movement" as the city administration is busy cleaning sewage and roads in the affected areas. Army units and police have also joined the Capital Construction Authority (CMC) rescue efforts in the main districts and suburbs of Islamabad.

In response to reports of flooding, Prime Minister Imran Khan warned citizens to be "extra careful" during heavy monsoon rains. He also directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and all emergency responders to remain "on high alert and quickly respond to emergencies."

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) spokesman Dr Zahir Babar told the media that record rains have taken place in the suburbs of Saidpur and Golra Sharif in various parts of Islamabad, totaling 128 mm and 106 mm, respectively, in the last 24 hours. "Islamabad and surrounding areas received heavy monsoon rainfall in the morning," the Meteorological Office said in a statement.
