One person died and dozens were evacuated or rescued by rescue services after torrential rains and storms have caused flooding in parts of Romania over the past few days.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of Romania (IGSU) said the body of a man was found in a riverbed in Handresti, Yashi County, on July 19, 2021. IGSU reported that the man was likely caught off guard by the increased flow of water while trying to cross the river.
Dozens of houses and roads were flooded by heavy rain on 18 July. According to the IGSE, 60 people were evacuated on 20 July in Lereshti, Argesh district, and 8 people in Busteni, Prahova district.
On the eve, 14 people had to be rescued from 6 cars stuck in flood water on the road between Dureu and Grinciesh in Neamts County. An evacuation was also carried out in Bistre in Alba County.
Floods and landslides have hit Alba County since 15 July. More than thirty houses were flooded and over 20 people were evacuated, mainly in the areas around Okolish.
