The heat in the European part of Russia is intensifying, new temperature records await Moscow. To what extreme values will the thermometer rise? When will the African heat in the center of the country reach its peak? And will the rains at the end of the week be able to freshen up the atmosphere a little?
The heat in European Russia will last the whole week. Abnormal heat again pushes people to rash acts. So, in St. Petersburg, two men, apparently fleeing the heat, staged a swim on the Neva. The swimmers felt quite comfortable in the stormy river and were not afraid to drown. At the same time, swimming in the Neva is officially prohibited.
At the same time, in the northern capital, residents drew attention to lawns, trees and flower beds that were dying from drought, the foliage turned yellow. In the Moscow region, against the background of abnormally high temperatures and drought, forests began to burn. The day before, the area of the fire in the Istra district reached three and a half hectares. Another hotbed of fire arose near Dmitrov. Due to the dangerous fire situation, access to the forests near Moscow is now limited.
Hot weather near Gelendzhik near the Parus rock caused microalgae bloom. As a result, the sea water turned blood red. And the beaches of Anapa were attacked by hordes of ladybirds who occupied umbrellas, gazebos and benches. Their invasion is also associated with weather anomalies.
The culprit of the abnormal heat in the European part of Russia is a huge long-lived anticyclone, which has been holding over the Russian Plain for more than a week. Neither southern nor northern cyclones can move the high-pressure center from its place, therefore, the overheating of the atmosphere is increasing.
Today, the 30-degree heat zone will occupy three quarters of the territory of European Russia. In the south, the daytime temperature in a number of regions will surely exceed +35, the thermometers will continue to creep up. The July sun will warm the air even more in the north-west and in the center of the country - the heat here will reach record levels.
Today and tomorrow in St. Petersburg, the thermometer will rise to +33 degrees, renewing the previous highs of 1941 and 2010, when the temperature reached +32, 2 and +32, 5, respectively. However, by the end of the week, the influence of a cold atmospheric front will affect the banks of the Neva, on Friday it will bring refreshing thunderstorms to the northern capital. Thanks to this, on weekends, the temperature will drop to a comfortable +25.
In Moscow, on Tuesday and Wednesday, at the height of the day, the air will warm up to + 31 … + 34. In the capital, most likely, the previous records of 1936 and 1951 will also be broken. In the second half of the week, the megalopolis will remain in a 30-degree heat, in the sky here and there "caps" of thunderclouds will appear. But significant showers can bring the temperature down to +25 only closer to the weekend.
As part of the joint project "Snapshot from Orbit" with Roscosmos, today we will take a look from space at the Russian Far East. The satellite image shows that the smoke from the fires in Chukotka and Kamchatka is already over the Arctic Ocean and the Bering Sea. At the same time, a system of atmospheric fronts is shifting towards Chukotka through Yakutia. Dry thunderstorms can again thunder over the region, which often cause new fires to appear.
Of course, this is unpleasant news for the Republic of Sakha - now Yakutia is already confidently leading in fires. In the first half of the year alone, 413 thousand hectares of forest were destroyed by fire - this is the area of two Luxemburgs or nine Andorras.
