Hot weather accelerates the spread of COVID-19 infection. Alexei Avenirovich, head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, St. Petersburg State University, told Nevsky Novosti about this.

“The heat makes the disease worse, especially in patients with respiratory distress. The spread of the virus was influenced by the crowding of people, mass events since May,”Avenirovich believes.

In his opinion, heat often acts as a catalyst for the spread of the disease. The increase in coronavirus cases is caused by the loss of caution by citizens. Sultry weather, the professor believes, drives people from the premises to the street, where crowds of people often gather. In crowded conditions, infections occur faster and on a larger scale.

Avenirovich also said that during hot weather, ventilation of the premises through the windows should be preferred. When using air conditioners, the likelihood of contracting the virus increases dramatically.

Recall that according to the headquarters, on July 10, 5,694 new cases of coronavirus were registered in Moscow. In the Moscow region, this figure was at the level of 2487, in St. Petersburg - 1978, in the Nizhny Novgorod region - 527, in the Voronezh region - 423, in the Krasnoyarsk region 401 new cases of infection were recorded.
