Northern Jammu and Kashmir suffered a devastating hailstorm that severely damaged fruit crops and fruit trees. Valley gardeners expressed concern about damage to apple trees, walnuts, pears and other fruit crops as a result of yesterday's heavy hail. It hit several areas of northern Kashmir, especially the upper Rafiabad region in Rohama district.

A spokesman for the affected farmers called for full compensation for gardeners and farmers who suffered heavy losses from heavy rains followed by heavy hail.

Recent hailstorms in the Dahnipor area of Anantnag County have caused significant damage to horticulture, in particular the apple harvest. The initial official estimate was that damage ranged from 2 to 25 percent of the crop.

Following the hail, the Horticultural Department carried out a detailed damage assessment in the area. The Dahnipor region is the main apple production area in Anantnag district, where such settlements as Leaver, Lehandjan, Hamnardi, Sheikhpora, Benard, Padden, Sallar, Batpora and some others are in the lead.
