China's National Health Commission (NHC) has announced the world's first human case of H10N3 avian influenza. He was found in a 41-year-old resident of Jiangsu province, according to Reuters.

The man was hospitalized on April 28. He complained of fever and other flu symptoms.

On May 28, it became known that the patient had contracted bird flu. But it has not yet been reported how exactly he could have obtained this pathogen.

Currently, the man's condition has improved, the doctors are preparing him for discharge. Everyone who has come into contact with the sick person is under observation, but they did not show signs of infection.

There are many different strains of avian influenza in China, and some of them periodically infect humans. Typically, those who work with poultry are affected.

In 2016-2017, an outbreak of avian influenza (strain H7N9) was registered, during which about three hundred people died. The H10N3 strain was considered safe for humans and low pathogenic, and the risk of spreading on a large scale was very low. No other human cases of the H10N3 virus have previously been reported worldwide, according to the NHC.
