The National Quantum Laboratory announced the creation of a prototype of a Russian quantum computer.

According to forecasts, the first active Russian image will appear in 10 years

Scientists at the National Quantum Laboratory were able to assemble a platform of 20 ions that were captured by an electromagnetic trap. The goal of the scientists was to capture and stabilize several ions in an electromagnetic field using an ion trap, which was created from a set of charged electrodes that form a magnetic field.

Now scientists are faced with the task of learning how to use the resulting platform to carry out calculations, but so far this has not been achieved. But the resulting system already now allows one to simulate algorithms that can later become part of the first Russian quantum computer.

The National Quantum Laboratory, which was created under the leadership of Rosatom with the participation of HSE, MISIS, MIPT and other organizations, expects to be able to create a full-fledged quantum processor by the end of 2024, and the first quantum computer may appear in ten years. Already now, the Russian quantum industry lags behind other countries by 7-10 years.
