The researchers named an unusual feature of the water area, which is known to many people as the mysterious disappearance of planes.

Comparing data for different years, scientists came to the conclusion that every decade hurricanes in the Sargasso Sea, where the Bermuda Triangle zone is located, are getting stronger.

In particular, the researchers discovered a seemingly strange feature: within a radius of 100 km from Bermuda, the average maximum hurricane wind speed increased from 56 to 117 km / h. It is about the period from 1955 to 2019. This is equivalent to an increase in wind speed of 10 km / h every ten years.

The changes are associated with warming of waters in the Bermuda Triangle zone. Higher temperatures near the sea surface cause more severe tropical cyclones. In addition, the formation of storms is also influenced by the temperature in the depths of the sea, although it was previously believed that it does not play a very important role in this.

Tropical cyclones arise from the rise of warm, humid air upward, condensation of water vapor in the form of rain, and the lowering of drier air, which is obtained in this process, downward. Surface waters cool as a result, but if the waters in the depths are warm enough, they rise and continue the process of storm formation. Because of this, it becomes stronger, scientists say.
