People who sleep during the day or nine or more hours at night are at increased risk of stroke. This conclusion, according to a press release on EurekAlert !, was made by Chinese scientists from the University of Science and Technology in Wuhan.

The experiment, which lasted six years, was attended by 31, 7 thousand people who had not previously had strokes and other health problems.

According to the results of the survey, eight percent of the participants naped 90 minutes or more during the day, and 24 percent slept nine or more hours a day. The latter had strokes 23% more often than those who slept seven to eight hours a day. At the same time, those who slept for a long time and dozed during the day had a stroke more often by 85%.

Earlier, a sleep doctor from the Sechenov Medical Academy, Mikhail Poluektov, in an interview with Vechernyaya Moskva, dispelled the myth that prolonged sleep on weekends can compensate for fatigue and lack of sleep.

According to him, such a rest regime - when a person sleeps more than usual on weekends than on weekdays - can cause serious illness. Among them are diabetes mellitus and diseases associated with the cardiovascular system.

It is worth noting that just over a month ago, scientists from the University Hospital Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, argued exactly the opposite.
