An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 has just happened off the Loyote Islands, and aftershocks continue off the coast of New Zealand, and due to the fact that there is now a night there, the consequences and strength of the tsunami are unclear. The tsunami alarm is still active. According to preliminary calculations, the first wave should have already approached.

The National Emergency Response Center continues to urge residents to move away from the coast and says that the tsunami warning will remain in effect for several more hours and more tsunami waves are expected to arrive.

The earthquake that followed the powerful 7.3 off New Zealand and off the Loyote Islands shows that the struggle of the two plates is not over at all and more earthquakes should be expected.

In this area, the Australian and Pacific plates are on top of each other and the faults, which are not connected now, can increase dramatically and the destruction of a huge piece of one of the plates will occur, which in its scale will mean not just an earthquake and tsunami, but, as an option, disappear from the world map a number of large island states.

If this happens, the danger will threaten even countries that are far from what is happening now in this zone of seismic anomaly.
