The territory of the Oka State Biosphere Reserve is located in the Spassky, Klepikovsky and Kasimovsky Districts of the Ryazan Region in the southeastern part of the Meshchera Lowland. There, a hurricane that passed caused a tornado, which destroyed part of the protected forest. According to eyewitnesses, in the village of the Central Estate of the reserve, the revelry of the elements occurred at about 18:00 on July 14. At this time, most of the employees were still at work and saw how a terrible squall with streams of water came. There are also eyewitnesses to the whirlwinds that passed through the village. Fortunately, there was no serious harm in the settlement - only a few trees were knocked down. On the territory, unfortunately, things are much worse.

Alexey Pankov, Deputy Director of the Oka State Biosphere Reserve: "The damage is very serious. The entire territory of the reserve is affected, but we can fully assess the damage only from space images. Now almost all the roads are blocked up, it is impossible to drive anywhere. We are examining the reserve from a quadrocopter and the picture is disappointing. The forest is dumped like -to "stripes" - in places solid rubble, and in places everything is normal - these are the traces of hurricane vortices. All our inspectors are busy clearing roads and glades. Financing of all protected areas of the country in recent years is extremely meager, we count every penny, every liter of gasoline Currently, we are assessing the amount of damage caused and are preparing a request to the Ministry of Natural Resources for additional funding to eliminate the consequences of the hurricane. The situation is difficult, the equipment is quite old and constantly breaks down right in the forest. But we are obliged to do our job, and we do it, like hundreds of our colleagues in other reserves. no one canceled other disasters and their consequences ".
