Stormy weather hit Egypt, causing flooding and severe damage in various regions of the country. On Friday, March 13, authorities announced 21 deaths, including 6 children, Arab News reported.

Weather-related deaths have been reported in Qena, Wadi el Gedid, Sohag and Manufiya governorates. Most of the tragic incidents occurred in rural areas and are associated with electric shocks and collapse of residential buildings.

Strong winds, thunderstorms with lightning and localized flooding caused chaos in parts of Egypt. The storm knocked down dozens of trees and destroyed 5 buildings.

Floods have engulfed parts of the governorates of Wadi el Gedid, Suez and Cairo. Drainage systems were overloaded, the infrastructure of cities and towns was disrupted, and entire districts were left without water supply. Videos posted on social media show severe flooding in parts of the city of Helwan, south of Cairo.

Schools, government offices, airports and marinas were closed due to difficult weather conditions, and rail links were suspended.

The two trains collided near Ramses railway station, the main railway point in Cairo. The storm caused the accident, as a result of which 13 people were injured. The press service of the Egyptian Ministry of Health said the injuries to the passengers were not dangerous.
