The luminous object in the sky over Karelia, which was caught by CCTV cameras, is a fireball, that is, a celestial object of a relatively small size, which enters the Earth's atmosphere and glows brightly, burning in it. Viktor Grokhovsky, professor at the Physics and Technology Institute of the Ural Federal University (UrFU), told TASS about this. It is still impossible to determine the place of its fall, the scientist specified.

On February 21, a video appeared on the Internet showing a luminous falling object in the sky over Karelia. He was filmed by CCTV cameras in the city of Kostomuksha. The footage shows how the object enters the atmosphere and burns up. In social networks, local residents wrote that they heard a sound like an explosion.

"The fireball can be interesting, because there was information that there was a sound of an explosion. The fact that this fireball was observed [over Karelia] is for sure. I do not see any prospects for the search yet. - explained Grokhovsky.

According to him, the necessary equipment for fixing the car is available in Finland. “In Finland, it seems, it was registered, but so far there was no reaction from them, we have a person working there. In Finland there is a fireball network, but we do not, so they could detect this fireball,” the scientist explained.
