An experiment in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica has revealed evidence that this universe was born in the same Big Bang as ours, but with the rules of physics that are completely opposite to ours.

An experiment to detect cosmic rays discovered particles that could simply be from outside our universe.

NASA's Antarctic Pulse Transition Antenna (ANITA) uses a giant balloon to transport thin electronic antennas high into the cold, dry air over Antarctica, where there is no radio noise to distort its results.

There is a constant "wind" of high energy particles coming from space - some of them a million times more powerful than anything we can create ourselves.

Particles of low energy - neutrinos - can pass completely through the earth, practically not interacting with the matter of our planet. But higher energetic objects stop in solid matter of the Earth.

This means that high energy particles can only be detected "coming down" from space. Finding a heavier particle, the tau neutrino, emerging "up" from the earth, would mean that these particles are actually moving backward in time.

And that's exactly what the Anita scientists saw.

Peter Gorham, an experimental particle physicist at the University of Hawaii and Principal Investigator at ANITA, is the lead author of a Cornell University paper describing this strange phenomenon.

Pointing to the absolute impossibility of tau neutrino behavior, Gorham suggests that the only way this could happen is if the particle changed into a different type of particle before passing through Earth and then returning again.

That's a billion to one, it can only happen once.

But the ANITA team saw several of these "impossible" events.

The simplest and therefore scientifically most elegant explanation is as follows: at the moment of the Big Bang, two universes were formed - ours and another, which, from our point of view, works in the opposite direction.
